About Us
Mind Body Source is an internet-oriented retailer focused on identifying and developing innovative online markets.
We do this by experimenting with online sales channels and developing unique, highly-targeted marketing materials to reach the right consumer audience for a given product line.
Examples of successful web sites and markets include Our Condoms Organization, Condoms at Amazon, Condoms-Condoms at Ebay, as well as such lines as dietary supplements and adult-oriented intimacy products.
Founded in 2003 by Amazon.com alumnus Sean Kearney, Mind Body Source is located in Seattle. If you would like further

Sean Kearney
Sean Kearney is a 1993 graduate of the University of Washington, where
he obtained a BA in business and marketing while playing on the Huskies football team as a linebacker.
He developed an interest in sports medicine and herbal supplements while employed by General Nutrition Centers from 1993 to 1995.
He worked for Amazon.com from 1998 to 2001, rising to become an event marketing manager after two years performing customer service duties.
Subsequent to his departing Amazon, he started a small retail company focusing on herbal supplements, which he subsequently sold. He is the founder and head of Mind Body Source.
Mike Whybark
Mike Whybark is a 1992 graduate of Indiana University. He worked in print advertising and design until 1996, when he began working as an interaction
designer and producer for multimedia projects. His technical and design leadership culminated in the development of a system for the rapid development and
administration of online surveys and sweepstakes for iPromotions. iPromotions was acquired by the large online advertising firm 24/7 Media in 2000. Mike worked
for 24/7 as the Director of Promotional Product Development until 2001. Prior to joining Sean at Mind Body Source in 2003, he worked as a journalist and consultant
for numerous clients. He is responsible for developing business processes and technology to support Mind Body Source's fulfilment and marketing practices.
Scott Parker-Anderson
Scott Parker-Anderson is a 1992 BFA of Dramatic Arts graduate of the University of Puget Sound. While in school he taught
at a fine arts summer camp for several years. In 1997, he came to work for Amazon.com, where he was employed until 2002, most recently as a
Fraud Investigation Specialist II. While at Amazon, he worked as a frontline customer service representative for two and a half years and he was a
key trainer for the implementation of customer service tools at distributed Amazon warehouse locations. He oversees order fulfilment and leads customer care and contact for Mind Body Source.

Where we work
Mind Body Source maintains warehouse facilities in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.
We keep a wide array of personal care and relaxation goods in stock and ready to ship, including cosmetics,
aromatherapy products, notebooks, massage products, herbal supplements, and inexpensive personal care items.
In general, our marketing philosophy is to provide easy and affordable access to products that appeal to consumers
but which might be hard to find in a large retail environment. We strive to provide the level of courteous and attentive service
the consumer expects, and maintain a generous return or refund policy in case of shipping damage or product dissatisfaction.
We work hard to ensure that we have the right stock at the right time. As one of the few smaller merchants that ships both to any
United States military address and to international destinations, we are well versed in the art of prompt, accurate shipping.
What we do
Mind Body Source relies heavily on the values and practices of Amazon.com to provide a model for our business practices.
Three of our four core employees are former employees of Amazon, and the long term business and cultural goal of Mind Body Source is to
emulate the consumer-oriented, service-based sales success of Amazon, building revenue and marketshare for both companies to the benefit of all parties.
Mind Body Source is a revenue-funded company which subscribes to the belief that during the first two years of business, the foundation of the
operation's culture is laid. By orienting to revenue, we emphasize and privilege the source of that revenue, the customer. To that end, we offer
generous refund and returns coverage in the case of errors, shipping damage, or customer satisfaction. Additionally, while we publish guidelines covering this,
our customer service philosophy empowers all employees to override the policy to make a customer happy. Our goal is complete customer satisfaction.
Mind Body Source also models our privacy policy on that of Amazon. We do not use, and never have used, our customer base to create or deliver targeted marketing in any form.
No customer contact has ever been initiated by Mind Body Source for any other reason than to fulfill an order or to clear up an expressed concern regarding a transaction.
Customer Retention and Satisfaction
We constantly monitor and respond to any customer contact initiated by a consumer. Our first line of response is telephone and email. When a customer calls, everyone who works
at Mind Body Source is trained to pick up the phone, assist the consumer with whatever their need may be, up to and including immediate priority mail reshipment of shipping errors
or immediate refunds for items deemed dissatisfactory for any reason. We rarely require a return from the affected consumer, preferring, if applicable, to offer the item as a gift.
In addition, we generally include a customer appreciation gift in any reshipment, along with a note of apology.
Amazon has had the wisdom and foresight to include a customer feedback mechanism which is published directly on the website for each third-party merchant. It is a business goal
of Mind Body Source to accomplish as nearly perfect a rating within this system as possible. To that end, in our customer contact protocol, each employee is instructed to encourage
the customer to provide feedback, and we include step-by-step instructions on how to do this in all customer-centric written communication. This, in conjunction with our volume of sales,
provides us with a relatively high number of feedback datapoints for a third-party merchant on Amazon – over 11,000 as of this writing.
When any feedback is registered with a value of less than 5 stars, the associated order is flagged for personal follow-up, and one of our customer service personnel
contacts the customer directly via phone or email to seek a resolution of the source of their dissatisfaction. In each case, the Mind Body Source representative is authorized
to go to any length to meet the customer's concerns, up to and including issuing gift certificates over and above the value of the initial order, even in cases where it may be
necessary to issue a refund for the product.
This attention to feedback is just as important to us as sales and fulfilment, as it helps Mind Body Source to track problems as they occur, to listen closely to the needs
of our customer base, and to meet our objective of stellar customer service. It is an integral part of the day-to-day operations of our customer service personnel.
Revenue and Financial
Mind Body Source has shown strong and consistent revenue growth since beginning operations in October of 2004.
Mind Body Source has developed an innovative product mix which provides us with a broad consumer base while allowing us
the freedom to experiment in the development of creative marketing techniques.
Our primary product lines includes adult items, sextoys, personal massagers, vibrators, personal lubricants, herbal sex supplements, and a range of personal care health and wellness.
Marketing
Over the past year, Mind Body Source has experimented with numerous innovative online marketing strategies,
all of which drove new traffic to our listings and not incidentally to Amazon as a whole. The three main strategies we employed were:
- List items that Amazon does not carry
- Price a range of these items as aggressive loss leaders
- Include products that appeal to leading-edge, tastemaker consumers
The combination of these product marketing strategies drew consumers to our listings in large and increasing numbers,
and in particular, resulted in two specific traffic and sales spikes.
New line merchandising, pricing, and promotions.
By focusing on and selecting consumer categories which we believe Amazon's internal marketing professionals have neglected
for a variety of reasons, we have accomplished our objective of bringing new revenue to both Mind Body Source and to Amazon. Our herbal supplements
and adult toys are the highest-revenue exemplars of this strategy, but our introduction and innovative marketing techniques for lingerie also reflected this.
In addition, we will offering a free shipping offer at $25 or more – matching Amazon's shipping promotions, thereby ensuring a smooth consumer
shopping experience – with calibrated breakpoint pricing, we have been able to drive our average per-order revenue up significantly.
Finally, we will be instituting a free gift certificate promotion to each Mind Body Source customer, in which we provide a $5 discount on each
purchase of $25 or more. We are experimenting with ways to disseminate this promotion, as our intention is to build sales and traffic to new customers
via consumer referrals of this offer.
Advertising
As a part of our marketing push for 2008, we have established an Pay Per Click online advertising budget which will be
invested with Google, Yahoo, and MSN marketing services such as Google AdWords. It's expected that this advertising campaign should result in at least one further pass-along marketing success.
